About Us
What We Stand For
Three pillars. One purpose.
Anti-Racism
Naming racism — overt, covert, and systemic — and building the knowledge and courage to actively work against it in schools, communities, and daily life.
Diversity
Celebrating the richness of who we are — across culture, identity, background, and experience — and learning how difference makes us stronger, not divided.
Leadership
Empowering every student to find and use their voice — developing the skills, confidence, and values to create positive change in their schools and beyond.
Where We Come From
A legacy nearly 50 years in the making.
SEEDS was born in 1976 out of a conviction that young Canadians deserved honest, balanced education about the world they were inheriting. What began as an energy literacy initiative grew into something far larger — a multi-decade legacy of programs engaging students across Canada.
In 2014, the SEEDS Foundation and the Connections Education Society merged — uniting environmental education with one of Canada’s most respected diversity and leadership programs.
Today, SEEDS Connections continues empowering youth through experiential learning in diversity, leadership, environment, and energy literacy — inspiring students across Canada to create positive change in their communities.
1976
Founded in Edmonton, building energy literacy curriculum for Canadian schools.
1991
GREEN Schools™ established and later recognized with an Alberta Emerald Award for environmental education.
2002
Honoured by the Salt Lake Olympic Committee for outstanding achievement in environmental education.
2014
SEEDS Foundation and Connections Education Society unite — SEEDS Connections is formed.
Today
SEEDS Connections programs have engaged more than 40,000 students across Canada and their follow-up “Be The Change” projects have reached audiences of over 75,000 students and community members since 2011 — expanding youth leadership, environmental stewardship, and diversity education nationwide.
